Tuning Check list before you get started with the tuning process
Pre-Tuning Preparations
Vehicle Inspection:
- Ensure the vehicle is free from:
- **Vacuum Leaks:** Inspect all hoses, gaskets, and intake.
- **Coolant Leaks:** Check radiator, hoses, and water pump.
- **Oil Leaks:** Inspect the engine, oil pan, and seals.
Fluid Levels:
- Confirm all fluids are at appropriate levels:
- Engine oil
- Coolant
- Transmission fluid
- Brake fluid
Spark Plugs:
- Verify that spark plugs are gapped correctly (consult specific vehicle specs).
- If you are unsure what plugs or gap is required please refer to article:
Fuel Requirements:
- Ensure the vehicle is running the correct fuel type (octane rating as per tuning specifications).
- Check fuel quality and freshness. Bad gas will cause knock and hinder performance and slow down the tuning process.
Fuel System Check:
- Verify all fuel system components are working as intended and that the vehicle has adequate fueling, if using a fuel system ensure all the pumps work ahead of time. Make sure the hobbs functions (if applicable) and make sure the regulator works and is set to the appropriate pressure.
NON DI cars:
50 PSI Base then connect vac and boost to the regulator
DI cars:
60 PSI static on the DI regulator, and 50 PSI base on the PI regulator, then connect vac and boost.
Single regulator DI cars set the regulator at 60PSI with vac and boost connected to it at idle.
Battery and Electrical Systems:
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and in good condition. This is very important, if the battery dies while writing a tune it will brick the ECU!!
- Verify all electrical connections are secure.
Tire Condition and Pressure:
- Check tire pressure and condition before performance testing. This is for yours and everyone elses safety!!
